ARWA Foodtech AB has developed a range of nourishing tasty sauces that combine the properties of African baobab fruit. The products are affluent in dietary fiber, antioxidants, and minerals.

ARWA Foodtech is founded by the Swedish-Sudanese food scientist Arwa Mustafa. She first brought the baobab fruit to Sweden as a home reminiscent. It did not take long for her friends in Sweden to share the same appreciation to the fruit. That saw a seed for research-biz idea that Arwa cultivated over the years. The dream was to develop tasty and nutritious baobab-based products while simultaneously being able to give back to her, and the baobab fruits, country of origin.

The baobab-fruit we use comes from Sudan in North-eastern Africa. It grows on huge trees also known as “The fruit of Africa’s Tree of Life”. They can absorb large amounts of water and are used as water reservoirs for humans and animals.

The fruits are large, oval to round and berry-like and hold kidney-shaped seeds in a dry, pulpy matrix, which when ripened are dried out and change colours to a beautiful brown-purple. The pulp is high in vitamin C, antioxidants and several key minerals like potassium, magnesium, iron and zinc.

Using green tech, the ARWA team has also developed extraction methods to recover baobab seed oil, with several applications within food, skincare, and health products.

Baobab is a traditional African food. In 2008 it was approved as Novel Food by the European Food Safety Agency EFSA. This opened the market for using baobab fruit pulp powder as a food ingredient on the European market.
